J Derrick Unger it was a huge deal for them that forced them to close multiple locations in order to do a deep clean and replacement of everything (lots of labor/wasted food costs/overhead). Their stocks and reputation took a hit which lead to weeks and perhaps months of slow business and hesitant customers who lost faith in the food safety and more broad hesitancy moving forward bc one kid wasn’t raised right. From a business and societal standpoint, it makes sense for them to pursue these damages to recuperate costs and also to set a precedent in deterring future morons from doing it. If the kid gets away with it with a slap on the wrist, it’ll only embolden more disgusting creatures who think there won’t be any consequences for their actions.
